Much like Chik'n nuggets, chik'n strips are one of my favourite late night snacks. They're satisfyingly crispy on the outside, tender and meaty on the inside, and make snack time something to look forward to. There are millions of brands of chik'n strips on the market, so which one is the very best when it comes to nutrition? This time, we're comparing 3 different chik'n strip brands to find out which one is the best option when it comes to our health. We're comparing two of the leading veggie strips and one meat based strip in this battle of the chik'n strips. Let's meet our competitors!
It's time to find out which strip is the best strip on the market! Let's get right into this battle of the strips! ROUND 1 CALORIES YVES - 190 PC Brand - 240 TYSON - 210 WINNER - YVES All 3 brands have fairly low calories when you consider a 2000 calorie a day diet. Although the YVES brand has fewer grams in their 3 piece serving, they still take this win because of the calorie count. You could easily take in an additional strip and still be a ok when it comes to calories. ROUND 2 FAT YVES - 9 g / 14 % DV PC Brand - 13 g / 17% DV TYSON - 10 g / 13 % DV WINNER - YVES! Yves and Tyson were almost tied this round with the PC brand trailing behind in the fat department. The YVES strips come in at 9g of fat per 3 piece serving making them a wonderful choice for a quick snack or a light lunch option paired with a nice, veggie forward salad. Yves is the winner this round! ROUND 3 SODIUM YVES - 470 mg / 20% DV PC Brand - 290 mg / 13 % DV TYSON - 500 mg / 22 % DV WINNER - PC Brand The PC Brand strips come in significantly lower in sodium than the other two brands making them the clear winner this round. In fact, you could have an additional one and a half strips before hitting the same amount of sodium found in the meat based Tyson strips. Interestingly, the YVES brand is almost as high in sodium as the meat based Tyson strips coming in at 20% of your daily allotment of sodium. ROUND 4 CARBOHYDRATES YVES - 16 g PC Brand - 20 g TYSON - 17 g WINNER - YVES YVES is the winner this round with the lowest amount of carbohydrates per serving but the TYSON brand is a close second. Once again, the PC brand veggie strips come in a bit higher than the other two options in this round putting them in third place. ROUND 5 FIBER YVES - 3 g / 12% PC Brand - 3 g / 11 % TYSON - 0 g WINNER - TIE! Yves, PC Brand We have our first tie of the competition with both plant based options offering up over 10% of your daily fiber per serving. The meat based strip from Tyson offers absolutely no fiber whatsoever making them the worst choice in this round. ROUND 6 PROTEIN YVES - 11 g PC Brand - 13 g TYSON - 13 g WINNER - TIE! PC Brand, Tyson Well there you have it folks, a plant based strip has exactly as much protein as its meaty counterpart once again proving that vegans and vegetarians can get just as much protein as a meat eater can. Another day, another myth busted! Both the PC Brand & Tyson strips contained 13 g of protein per 3 strip serving while the YVES brand was sitting comfortably at 11 g. ROUND 7 VITAMINS & MINERALS WINNER - PC Brand The PC Brand has come out on top in terms of additional vitamins and minerals per serving. Where it could be compared, the PC Brand had more per serving than the YVES brand and considerably more than the TYSOn brand strips. You can rest assured that you're getting a nutritious snack with these strips! WINNER .......... ......... ........ ....... ...... ..... .... ... .. . IT'S A TIE YVES & PC Brand For the very first time since I started these fun little competitions, we have a tie! Both the plant based options took home four, 1st place wins each, meaning they have both won our chik'n strip showdown. Nothing makes me happier than to know that the veggie strips beat out the meat strips in almost every single category. I guess it should now be a given that going vegetarian, vegan, or sticking to plant based is the healthiest option for us! Tune in next time for another product showdown! HAPPY VEG I do not own any of these photographs.

They satisfy the need for something crispy and delicious while also providing us with good amounts of protein. I'm a sucker for a late night snack and often times, veggie nuggets are my go to. With so many varieties of veggie nuggets on the market, how do we decide which ones we'll stock our freezers with? That's why it's time for another PRODUCT BATTLE! This time, we're comparing two veggie nuggets on the market to find out which one is the most nutritious choice. Let's take a look at our competitors!
ROUND 1 CALORIES YVES - 220 MORNINGSTAR - 200 WINNER - MORNINGSTAR FARMS It's an extremely close race here but Morningstar Farms comes in at 20 calories less per serving of four nuggets. It's a narrow victory, but a victory nonetheless. ROUND 2 FAT YVES - 12g / 18% DV MORNINGSTAR - 9g / 12% WINNER - MORNINGSTAR FARMS Morningstar farms takes the win this round with 3g of fat less per serving of four nuggets. If you ventured into a second serving, you'd save yourself a considerable amount of fat going with the Morningstar farms variety and really, who eats only four nuggets? ROUND 3 SODIUM YVES - 430mg / 18% DV MORNINGSTAR - 370mg / 16% DV WINNER - MORNINGSTAR FARMS Morningstar farms comes in with another victory at 60mg of sodium less per serving than the Yves nuggets. Neither option is especially good in the sodium department when you consider almost a fifth of your sodium for the day in a measly 4 nuggets. You'll want to pair your nuggets with a fresh and delicious salad on the side to balance things out. ROUND 4 FIBER YVES - 3g MORNINGSTAR - 3g WINNER - TIE Both options have an equal amount of fiber per serving. As we know, fiber is a crucial part of our overall health and getting enough is important so you're investing in the right choice with either nugget option. ROUND 5 PROTEIN YVES - 14g MORNINGSTAR - 12g WINNER - YVES Another close round but Yves manages to pack in an additional 2 grams of protein per serving of four nuggets. Both options however offer up a decent amount of protein per serving so us veggies will benefit from either option in this case! ROUND 6 VITAMINS & MINERALS WINNER - YVES Based solely off of the information provided on both nutrition labels, YVES offers up more vitamins and minerals per serving. Also, comparing the two vitamins available on both nutrition labels, YVES offers up more calcium and significantly more iron per serving. YVES is the clear winner this round! WINNER .......... ......... ........ ....... ...... ..... .... ... .. . MORNINGSTAR FARMS This was an extremely close race but Morningstar Farms inched ahead as the most nutritious choice in this nugget showdown. With less calories, fat, and sodium per serving, Morningstar Farms manages to come out on top. Want to learn more about these delicious products? Photo and Information Owned By; https://www.morningstarfarms.com/ http://yvesveggie.ca/en/ It's time for another product battle! This time, we're comparing two different frozen black bean burgers from two big names in the plant based community to find out which one is the most nutritious! Let's meet the competitors! **NOTE** The Morningstar Farms Patties contain dried egg whites which means that they are NOT VEGAN
We are going to compare them based on a serving of one patty for this product battle. Are you guys ready to find out which black bean burger is the best choice? Let's get this battle black bean burger started! ROUND 1 CALORIES GARDEIN - 140 g MORNINGSTAR - 130 g WINNER - TIE Both burgers are low in calories which makes them an ideal choice. Either option allows you to have seconds with all of your favourite, fresh toppings without worrying your waistline. This one's a tie! ROUND 2 FAT GARDEIN - 0g MORNINGSTAR - 0.5g WINNER - TIE How can you go wrong with either of these low in fat choices? Both options are so low in fat that if you decide to go wild with your toppings choices (ie. cheese, mayo), you'll still be in the safe zone when it comes to your fat intake. This one's a tie! ROUND 3 SODIUM GARDEIN - 410 mg / 18% DV MORNINGSTAR - 220 mg / 9% DV WINNER - MORNINGSTAR Although the serving size is a bit larger on the Gardein patty, there's about a 200mg difference between these two patties. When you consider that we want to stay between 1500 mg - 2300 mg of sodium in a day, the Morningstar farms black bean burger is the safer option. In fact, you could eat 2 of the Morningstar farms patties and only consume an extra 30 mg of sodium. This one goes to Morningstar Farms! ROUND 4 DIETARY FIBER GARDEIN - 5 g / 18% DV MORNINGSTAR - 6 g / 24% DV WINNER - MORNINGSTAR Despite being a smaller patty, Morningstar's black bean burger provides you with more of the good stuff with 24% of your daily requirement of fiber per patty. Fiber is crucial for our digestive health and healthy bowel movements and can also help to keep you feeling fuller for longer. Morningstar definitely takes this round! ROUND 5 PROTEIN GARDEIN - 6 g MORNINGSTAR - 9 g WINNER - MORNINGSTAR With three more grams of muscle building protein per patty, there's no denying that Morningstar farms black bean patty is the winner this round. ROUND 6 VITAMINS & MINERALS WINNER - MORNINGSTAR Going solely off the provided information on each of the nutrition labels, Morningstar farms black bean burgers provide you with more vitamins and minerals per serving including vitamins A & C as well as calcium. WINNER .......... ......... ........ ....... ...... ..... .... ... .. . MORNINGSTAR FARMS Morningstar Farms Chipotle Black Bean Burgers are the winner of this product battle. With more fiber, protein, and vitamins per serving, it's clear that Morningstar Farms black bean patties are the most nutritious choice.
Make sure to tune in next time for another battle to find out which product is the best choice! HAPPY VEG Pics & Nutrition Labels are not mine. They were taken from, https://www.gardein.com/products/black-bean-burger-gf/ https://www.morningstarfarms.ca/en_CA/products/msf-veggie-burger-spicy-black-bean-product.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIv_iNu-v25gIVjYbACh22Mw98EAAYAiAAEgKtlfD_BwE Nothing like a good ol' fashioned product battle to start this wonderful Wednesday. This time, we're pitting two different breakfast sausage patties together to find out which one is more nutritious for you so that you can snatch up the winning box without worrying that there's something else out there that's better for you. Let's check out the competitors this week! Both Gardein and Yves have been around for quite some time now and both have a plethora of wonderful meatless options available. This weeks breakfast patty battle is sure to be exciting so let's take a look at the nutrition charts and begin this battle of the breakfast patties! We will be comparing them based off the recommended serving size which is for 1 patty of the Gardein brand and 2 patties of the YVES. Let's find out who will come out on top! ROUND 1 CALORIES GARDEIN 70 YVES 80 WINNER . . . . TIE Both options are fairly low in calories when compared per serving. The difference is that you get 2 patties with the YVES brand and only one with the GARDEIN. SHould you go in for a second patty, you're looking at almost double the calories of the YVES brand. ROUND 2 FAT GARDEIn 3.5g / 4% DV YVES 2g / 3% DV WINNER . . . . YVES Neither option is high in fat which is great, but the YVES serves up two patties for less fat than one of the GARDEIN variety. Once again, if you decided to go in for a second patty with the GARDEIN, you'd end up consuming 7g of fat which in itself is really not that bad but it certainly comes in significantly higher than the YVES variety. ROUND 3 SODIUM GARDEIN 300mg / 13% DV YVES 360mg / 15% WINNER . . . . GARDEIN GARDEIN inches ever so slightly ahead in the sodium round with 60 mg less sodium per serving. Things could go in a dramatically different direction should you have a second GARDEIN patty because it would leave you sitting at nearly double the amount of sodium and over 25% of your daily allowance meaning you'd need to be careful with the rest of your choices in the day! ROUND 4 PROTEIN GARDEIN 6g / 10% DV YVES 10g / 14% DV WINNER . . . . YVES YVES delivers in the protein department this round with 10g of muscle building protein per serving. Once again, things would take a turn in the other direction should you add that second GARDEIN patty in which case you'd have just a touch more protein than the YVES version but serving for serving, YVES comes out on top! ROUND 5 VITAMINS & MINERALS WINNER . . . . YVES This comes down to the information provided because GARDEIn fails to include the same statistics that YVES does when it comes to the vitamins & minerals department. Of the two stats we can compare, calcium and iron, YVES manages to come in with more of both per serving than the GARDEIn patties making them the winner in this department! WINNER .......... ......... ........ ....... ...... ..... .... ... .. . YVES Both breakfast patties put up a good fight but on a serving to serving comparison, YVES manages to come out on top! More protein, less fat, and more vitamins & minerals per serving means a better addition to your breakfast plate in the morning. Now get on out there and get yourself a box!
Make sure to come back again soon for the next battle of the meatless products to find out which product is number one! HAPPY VEG I do not own the images or information provided. Information and images taken respectively from, http://yvesveggie.com/ https://www.gardein.com/ The vegan meat market is heating up with new products hitting the shelves every day including the super popular Beyond products. With this influx of vegan products hitting the shelves, there is a constant debate as to whether these products are healthy or good for us. In fact, one of the biggest arguments from meat eaters who are skeptical of the vegan meat movement is that the products themselves contain a lengthy ingredients list and also contain high amounts of fat / saturated fats, specifically the Beyond products. So what's the deal? Are these Beyond meat products good for us or should we be avoiding them?
The Beyond Meat burgers contains 250 calories, 18 grams of fat, 6 grams saturated fat, and about 16% of your daily sodium per patty. Knowing this, it's obvious that the burgers are not necessarily the healthiest foods available to us, but when comparing to a beef based burger of the same size, the numbers are pretty similar except the meat versions contain dead animals and cholesterol. These burgers are not marketed as health food nor are they marketed as a healthy alternative to anything else, they are simply marketed as plant based alternatives to meat burgers without the animal products. Are they healthy? Not really, but are they supposed to be?
My point here is, for how often we would be consuming these products, should we even care that they are not necessarily healthy? How often are we eating sausages or burgers? They're meant to be a treat we enjoy once and a while but not something we should be eating every day. That old adage, "Everything in moderation" comes to mind when discussing these products because such is the case with anything that's not necessarily healthy. Is anyone arguing that pizza is a healthy food or not? No, because once again, it's a once and a while treat that we engage in amidst otherwise trying to enjoy a varied and healthy diet. At the end of the day, the Beyond line is a treat, one that should be enjoyed occasionally without worrying about whether it's a healthy choice. It's not supposed to be, so let's stop arguing over whether it's healthy or not because honestly, they're so damned good that I think we need to let it go! Have you tried products from the BEYOND line? Which ones are your favourite? Visit their website for a list of their products and locations where you can locate them! https://www.beyondmeat.com/ HAPPY VEG Going vegetarian or vegan means leaving behind some of the most recognizable and delicious breakfast foods. Sausages, puddings, and bacon are all out of the question which leaves us looking for that extra something to complete our weekend breakfast meal. However, we needn't say goodbye forever because meatless meats have come a long way and we can now find several variations of some of our favourite breakfast meats without any of the cruelty. YVES and LIGHTLIFE both have veggie bacons available on the market and both are likely delicious, but how do they stack up nutritionally? ROUND 1 CALORIES YVES 57g Serving - 70 Calories LIGHTLIFE 60g Serving - 120 Calories WINNER - YVES Neither option is really astronomical when it comes to calories but Yves manages to come in about 50 calories less for an equal sized serving. Those 50 calories saved can be added in the form of glorious potatoes or even an extra serving of eggs / tofu eggs. ROUND 2 FAT YVES 57g serving - 0.5g LIGHTLIFE 60g serving - 6g WINNER - YVES Considering we can safely have between 44 - 77 grams of fat per day depending on our calorie intake, both options come in fairly low but once again, YVES manages to come in as the lower fat option. Those additional grams of fat saved mean we can be a little less strict with the remainder of our choices throughout the day. ROUND 3 SODIUM YVES 57g serving - 470mg / 20% DV LIGHTLIFE 60g serving - 750mg / 36% DV WINNER - YVES Yves takes the round again with almost 300mg less sodium for an equal sized serving. Too much sodium is a dangerous thing for our bodies, so the lower sodium option is always the safer bet. ROUND 4 PROTEIN YVES 57g Serving - 14g LIGHTLIFE 60g Serving - 12g WINNER - YVES Both options offer a healthy dose of protein to start the day but once again, YVES manages to pull ahead ever so slightly with 14g of protein. FINAL ROUND VITAMINS & MINERALS WINNER - YVES YVES definitely takes the win in this round. Vitamin C, Iron, B12, B6, YVES offers more vitamins and minerals per serving than LIGHTLIFE which falls short in the vitamin department. Those vitamins and minerals are crucial to our bodies optimal function and a strong, healthy immune system. WINNER .......... ......... ........ ....... ...... ..... .... ... .. . YVES

BYPASS or BUY?
BUY! These are phenomenal. They give you everything you're looking for from a burger. Texture, flavour, and overall deliciousness. I'm hoping I can squeeze in one or two products from this line in before I head back to Canada. Grab a box today, you won't be disappointed! HAPPY VEG
What I love about their products first off is the selection of delicious choices but secondly, I love that their take home foods don't have any scary ingredients in them. It's so important when you purchase take home, ready made meals that you aren't getting all kinds of scary additives in them. One of the biggest problems with ready made meals is that they're laced with all kinds of hard to pronounce ingredients that don't belong in our systems so the Happy Pear line is fabulous and scary ingredient free. This specific entree was called Spicy Spuds and it was roasted potatoes, chickpeas, and cauliflower in a |spicy| curry style sauce. As with most ready meals, you could either bake or microwave it and I always suggest the oven but I was at work and without the means so I went with the microwave. The smell while everything was cooking up in the microwave was setting my hunger into overdrive honestly, I'm a sucker for curry, especially if it's as good as it smells. Once finished, I topped it with some raw pumpkin seeds and went to town!
